xc_climbmap (WIP)

    Hi guys, I am climbing on your server regularly and I really enjoy your climbing plug-in. However, there is a lack of climbmaps and I think it deserves at least one more! Since I'm a somewhat experienced mapper and I've read that there is a compensation involved for creating a map for HOC, I thought, why shouldn't I give it a shot?

    Well, here I am now and offering my service to you guys. I even started making the climbmap already, here are some fast compiled screenshots:

    The map is going to consist of 6 bigger and 2 smaller levels, while 5 of them are almost finished.
    The difficulty will be medium - hard.

    Currently working on the end of the last level, trying to find a great way to end the map...

    Everything else is pretty much finished. Just going to add some details here and there, but nothing too special. Map should be finished and ready to play by the end of this week. Here are some more screenshots:

    For starters I'd drop the xc_ tag since that is used for CSS maps which feature a different type of climbmaps due to physics differences in the game ;). All in all I like it! Good to see maps that step away from the regular block layout and try to add some atmosphere to it :).

    As for a name, aint got a clue..  :(

    sry, but i gotta stay with xc_, since I, as a german, think the abbreviation kz_ is just wrong.

    KZ = Konzentrationslager = Nazi concentration camp

    As a dutchman, I say move on. It's been 65+ years :X. KZ is Kreedz for me all the way; I wasn't even aware of 'the' german abbrevation ;o

    You could always ditch the prefetch or go with climb_ though. More mappers find the prefix rendered obsolete by the fact that maps can serve multiple purposes now. A de_ map can also be run as arms race etc.

    Almost finished with the map, only some minor details and the final compile and it's done, faster than anticipated :D:D:D:D

    couldnt finish the map today since i wasnt at home and tomorrow and saturday is going to be the same, so its going to be sunday for the release.

    Things I usually forget prior to launch:

    - build cubemaps
    - add 32 spawnpoints
    - make player spawn with only a knife
    - pack textures/models into bsp
    - have other users test it prior to launch

    good point spherix, i would definitely forget these points, especially packing the textures into the bsp. Thanks! you just saved me some time!

    hey roflzomglol, i like the map visual wise verry much, it seems well made and has a nice athmosphere.
    Gameplay wise i dislike it since it too often forces for use of "skill jumps" like bhop and stuff that casual player XYZ(me) can't do and adds to frustration extremely fast.

    I know the map should be a challange but if one is in for playing for "fun" then this map doesn't add to it.
    *EDIT* Played for an Hour when i finally gave up on the 230 woodplank board that yet again forced bhop.
    It's a cool map but too frustrating at points, going to avoid it in the future :/

    Aww, sorry to hear that, but I was aware that it's too hard for many newer climbers. I wanted to create a map that is actually challenging like quadrablock and minecraft are. There are enough easy maps on the server, there is no need to add another one.

    And the 230 jump is no bhop jump, it's "just" a strafejump, so is the 232j, only the 240j at the end is an easy bhop jump. Just give the map another try, it will be easier the more you climb it. You do not have to finish the map in one go, it's a challenge, do not forget what it means.

    Ah, so you are the guy who made me rage so often about this map. I remember the days where I couldn´t complete it because I had to bhop 230 units so I couldn´t do the 240 at the end. Now I do the map in ~5:30. This map was my nemesis as a noob and now it makes me rage every time I want to finish it below 5 minutes :D

    (Hab dich mal in Steam unter dem Namen iCu geaddet...würde mich freuen, in Zukunft eventuelle neue Maps testen zu dürfen, falls dafür Bedarf besteht.)
