Can we please have some rule about RTVing if you are under a certain rank? Multiple times now I have been in a run and repeatedly asked people not to RTV, when someone that just joined the server for the first time, or a "Scrub" has RTV'd the map. I know I am VIP and can go on the VIP server, but that server is not always empty and some people don't want to change the map on there.
Isnt rank decided by maps completed? Or am i completely wrong? Because i'd say that the idea is good, though if i were to decide i'd rather have it as a certain amount of time played, example being 3 hours, for you to be able to RTV.
Minimum rank wouldn't work because if new peeps were alone in the server they couldn't change the map ever. I think we should remove the ability for a single person to rtv when there is 2-3 people playing. The way it is now with 2 people in the server, 1 rtv and the map vote instantly starts. 2 people should require 2 rtvs to change.
I would always join a bunch of different servers because HoC doesn't have every map available. I would always look for empty servers, and if I join a server only to get a notice that i'm not a high enough rank to RTV would be really annoying. I think its just something you have to live with. You can ask them to not RTV, but if they do, then its their choice. This is generally only a problem when you're on a server with a small amount of people, when it doesn't take many votes to RTV. At that point, you can just join the VIP. If the main server is basically empty, then the empty VIP server is the same thing, but you won't be bothered in the VIP server.
If that happens then it becomes impossible to change the map if one person decides to go afk. That's the long and short of it right there. It's annoying when it happens but I don't think taking away rtv privileges from all low ranks is the solution. If anything, that would only discourage new players from playing on HoC servers and piss off any players from other servers, experienced or not, who come over here to play.
I'd be more concerned about losing a time than being stuck in a map because of an afk. If you're stuck on a map due to an afk then there are other servers that are constantly empty. Being 10 minutes into a run and getting an rtv sucks so bad. I was on a 10 minute improve on community jumps and got rtvd by some random troll. He WATCHED me get to the end then rtvd a minute away from finishing. That sort of situation should never happen. Maybe make it so VIP has a heavier weight when it comes to voting? Gives incentive to get VIP as well as prevents new players from fucking over others.
I don't think there is a need to over-complicate it. Its a majority vote. Even if there isn't many people on the server, its still a majority. That system works well if you ask me, and there is no need to change it. If you are going for an improve on a map, you're doing well, and someone RTVs, then you know you can do it again. Probably going to be even better the 2nd time. Look at it optimistically instead of getting upset about it.
This topic gets brought up every now and again, and there honestly hasn't been a solution provided that is good enough in most situations to warrant a change. That being said, I'm always open to new ideas. If enough people rally around a particular change to the system, I'll be more than happy to look into implementing it.
What about a time limit set based on joining the server? You can't rtv if you joined within the past 4 or 5 minutes. It wouldn't protect long runs, but might protect shorter ones or runs that are almost finished.
this would be cool if like after you reach a certain threshold of rank you can get past it, because if im on vip server by myself and theres a bad map on i wouldn't want to wait 5 mins to rtv, but if like vip rank or something will allow you to rtv instantly that'd work i think.
Yeah, maybe have the time limit removed if you're Skilled+ similar to VIP server status. Still would allow some trolls to ruin a run or two, but usually if you're at skilled you care about kz enough not to fuck someone else over.
One thing that has bothered me about rtv is that voting for maps have a higher priority than "don't change" or "extend current map". If you are two on a server and one votes for a map and the other for don't change it will always change the map to whatever the guy voted for. Somehow changing the priorities for who wins if the votes are equal will help if some random joins and immediatly rtvs if you are alone on the server and its only logical that not changing should have higher priority imo.
