Recently with the amount of new people making maps and the demand for testing them on the test server I feel we need a 3rd person who can manage the map additions and test server maps because it's a lot of work for just steven and chuckles.

And on a personal note, i asked steven/chuckles(i know he's on vacation) to put my map up a week before winter neb's new map was put up on the server, (and on the test server.)  almost at 2 weeks since the map's been done.

If they can't keep up with the demand they should add another "super" admin, or someone that can handle the demand and is more active on HoC #2.

Thoughts? I've voiced this in the server from time to time and a lot of people agree with me. (and a few admins).

People usually like to add maps in bulk because having to set up the map every time a new one comes out kills traffic, as it requires both a restart and a map change.
It might not be the most ethical, but it's probably the best way.

restarting the server is a pain and can cause people to leave for a while which we obviously dont want. although i do agree maybe a third person should be able to help with managing the maps being added/tested but i believe they should be in direct communication with steven and chuckles about this giving updates/reports on the maps etc. the best way to add maps is more than likely in bulk as 3dou mentioned since it minimizes the time the server is down.

Hey guys, me and Steven spoke quite a bit on this subject of a "super admin" and the reason for map delays etc.

First off the new EU server has not been set up to properly accept SSH yet and considering that chuckles has only recently returned from his vacation there is no way anyone should expect him to have this done already. people in this community need to realize that Steven and Chuckles run this community without getting paid for it, i personally doubt the donations are enough to cover server costs, running a community with this many servers isn't cheap, we have three NA server, im not sure about EU but im fairly positive there are three as well. Steven and Chuckles run this community because they love what they do and thats giving us an amazing community and they ask for nothing in return accept for our patience in certain times and for us to enjoy the server. at the end of the day life comes first for Steven and Chuckles as it should for all of us.

Secondly, Steven said that at this time its just not currently feasible ( i believe referring to the the "super admin" correct me if i misunderstood- this is being wrote in class break before an Exam for my psych class) and this should be perfectly understandable. It is not easy to just bring on a third person that has access to restarting servers and adding and removing maps etc. That should be understandable.

Exam starting soon. might edit this later.

Steven asked me if i could make a post summarizing our conversation.

    Hi Guys!

I agree that better map and map testing management should be a top priority for us. In fact, two of the projects that we have considered in the past would help with your concerns. They are:

Page on houseofclimb.com to allow admins to restart servers
    -Login protected
-Button to restart each of the servers

Ability for map developers to upload/run their own maps
    -Login protected
-Using a simple, secure upload method (probably not ftp)
-Button to change test server to your map

Of course, each of these projects would take significant development and testing and we need to take into consideration all of House of Climb's priorities when deciding which projects to allocate resources to.

Would you see either of these two projects as a significant help to your concerns?

    Thank you,
    Chuckles

RE: Chuckles, those are definitely good ideas, but I'm sure they'll take time to code and test/implement on the servers.
In regards to the map developer implementation, you'd just have to be sure that map devs don't have issues with others restarting/changing maps while others are working (if it's full dev. access as you suggested)

RE: Payne, if you're worried about expenses, you can always donate. I'm semi-broke University student and have donated what I can since I've been here. I know Steven and Chuckles pay most of the financial cost out of pocket, but I'm sure both would appreciate (even limited) subsidy from the community which makes use of the servers.

    They're both good ideas Chuckles.

Running all these servers and mods is a lot for 2 people. Let us know if we can help.
